UPnUP overview:

This ride starts Sunday from W Ken Caryl Ave in Littleton, CO. We will make a loop of some favorite Front Range cycling routes.

Monday you will leave the Denver-Boulder valley area climbing up Golden Gate Canyon to the Black Hawk-Central City gambling communities.

Tuesday we are off across the Peak to Peak highway and to Estes Park, spending the night at the East entrance to the Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park.

Wednesday morning's departure sends us up and over Trail Ridge Road (the Highest PAVED highway in America that actually leads somewhere, AND considered to be one of the Premiere Rides in Colorado!).  You'll descend on the western side of the Divide to Grand Lake and Granby.

Thursday you'll travel through Winter Park over Berthoud pass and down into Idaho Springs.

Friday's ride over Squaw Pass will take you back to the starting point in Littleton, with the option of a supported climb of Mt Evans, the highest paved road in the US. Each day presents spectacular secenery and uniquely challenging terrain.

UPnUP is a tour of the Rocky Mountain range as it rises from the plains to the Continental Divide and beyond.

This ride is best measured in altitude, not miles.

Each day presents its own challenges and its unique rewards.

Heres a summary of the numbers:

Day 1: Foothills loop, 50 miles, 4000 climbing, altitude range or 5300 to 8500

Day 2: Littleton to Blackhawk, 55 mi, 6500 climbing, high point=9,300

Day 3: Blackhawk to Estes Park, 60 mi, 7000 climbing, high point=9,360

Day 4: Estes Park to Granby, 60 mi, 7700 climbing, high point = 11,794

Day 5: Granby to Idaho Springs, 55 miles, 4100 climbing, high point=11,315

Day 6: Idaho Springs to Littleton, 70 miles, Mt Evans optional high point, 14,130!!!

UPnUP is a cycling tour that rises from the foothills and travels along the front range Mountains. You will bike across the Continental Divide twice and have the option to bike the highest paved roads in the US.  Photo opportunities abound, the scenery changes around every corner, over every rise. This ride is a showcase of Colorados Rocky Mountain scenery.

We start from Littleton at the edge of the foothill "hogback" ridge. On the first day's ride you can "play" in the foothills, evaluate your gearing and your legs as you get ready for what's to come, and return to the ride start location. You will climb some of the steepest grades this day as you ride popular training and recreational routes enjoyed by Denver area cyclist. Optional miles and shortcuts will be provided.

Day 2 starts with a climb UP Bear Creek Canyon to Lookout Mountain, a winding panoramic descent into the Coors brewery town of Golden. Then a great climb toward the Rockys in Golden Gate Canyon to the Peak to Peak Highway and into one of Colorado's gambling towns, Blackhawk. Good luck to you there.

Day 3 takes you back UP to the Peak to Peak highway. Established in 1918 this is Colorado's oldest scenic byway. This 55 mile route showcases the Front Range mountains, tying together Golden Gate Canyon State Park on the South and Rocky Mountain National Park to the North.

Day 4 Here we go! Some real high altitude cycling through Rocky Mountain National Park! It IS totally awesome to ride in the open this high above the timberline. Eight miles of roadway above 11,000'. The grade never exceeds 7% so .......... Enjoy!

Day 5. We start this day on the west side of the Continental Divide, between mountain ranges. Winter park, a great ski town, is very enjoyable in the summer too. Its a steady and scenic climb from there to Berthoud Pass, back to the eastern side of the Continental Divide. From Berthoud enjoy the great "coast" down ot Clear Creek and into Idaho Springs where we can enjoy the natural hot springs at our hotel.

Day 6. This is where you get to use your mountain riding experience to choose your days ride. Riding back to Littleton by way of Squaw pass and Bear Creek is beautiful. It is a good and challenging ride in its own right. But the 7 mile side trip to the top of Mt Evans is something that can't be found anywhere else in the USA. This is "mountaineering by bicycle". There is no way to charge to the top unless you are a world class climber. The record stands around 1 hour, 45 minutes from Idaho Springs to the top. We will pay your entry fee to Mt Evans Wilderness area and carry your cold weather gear to the top.

Take a look at www.bicyclerace.com if you're intetested in the annual Bob Cook Memorial Hillclimb on this route.

Everyone will carry away their own "best" and "worst" experiences from this ride, that's to be expected. I hope you enjoy the challenge as much as the scenery. This tour is certain to be a memorable experience for all.

Hope you can join us for this one.
